We remove the financial barrier at the primary to secondary transition

We provide access to secondary education for high-potential students from rural Nyeri County, Kenya, who would otherwise drop out due to financial barriers.

Joyce Wanjiku Nyambura

From Kiawamururu village to an international career

Joyce was born and raised in Kiawamururu village, Nyeri County, in a family of casual workers. Her parents had no high school education.

In 2015 Joyce was among the first students the foundation supported, which let her leave the village for Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls, a boarding high school. She went on to KCA University in Nairobi and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business.

Today she works as a collection accountant at Huawei in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and supports herself and her family.

Proof that talent exists everywhere, opportunity does not.

Local action

Focus in Nyeri County, partnering with local committees, village primary schools and secondary school partners.

Our selection process

Pre-selection (Sep to Nov), led by Grace and the local committees: application form, motivation letter, school report and home visits
Selection days (Dec) with the executive team and volunteers: written test and interviews
Final selection (Jan): letter of acceptance, and tuition paid directly to the school
